Senior PostgreSQL Migration Engineer

Nordic Investin has been engaged by a partner company to find a Senior PostgreSQL Migration Engineer. You enjoy migrations where success means application behaviour, performance and operational confidence all survive the move.

The partner is carrying out a large Oracle to PostgreSQL migration. Most of the role is hands on migration delivery, with additional responsibility for reviewing the target setup and improving its structure, performance and operating model.

The partner wants data and AI work that can be operated, explained and improved after launch. Provenance, quality, access and evaluation belong in the solution from the beginning.

You will work with engineers, analysts and domain specialists who look at the same information from different angles. The partner expects assumptions, datasets and evaluation methods to be visible. Solutions should be designed for repeatable delivery, monitored use and responsible change after deployment.

As a senior colleague, you will own substantial outcomes and help others make stronger decisions. You are expected to recognise risk early, communicate it without drama and move work forward with practical alternatives. The role still includes hands on delivery; seniority here means broader judgement, not distance from the work.

• Convert schemas, data types, procedures and database services.

• Plan and execute data migration with reconciliation controls.

• Tune queries, indexes, vacuum behaviour and configuration.

• Support application teams adapting SQL and database interactions.

• Design cutover, rollback and validation procedures.

• Review the PostgreSQL estate and recommend practical improvements.

• Deep PostgreSQL engineering and administration experience.

• Hands on Oracle to PostgreSQL migration work.

• Strong SQL performance analysis and indexing skills.

• Experience with high availability, backup and recovery.

• Scripting and migration automation ability.

• Clear communication across application and database teams.

• AWS DMS, ora2pg or comparable migration tooling.

• Very large databases or tight downtime windows.

• Regulated transaction systems.

You may come from database engineering, application performance or enterprise migration consulting. The partner needs someone who understands both engines and can explain what must change rather than treating migration as a mechanical export.

This role offers a clear technical mission and visible milestones. You will solve difficult compatibility and performance problems while influencing the PostgreSQL standards that remain after the migration ends.
